First week of February Fashion Week for 2010 kicked off, which meant Kelly Cutrone would be very busy. Also every year Fashion week is hosted in Bryant Park, New York, sadly this will be the last year. So around this time New York is so hectic; filled with the hottest models, the sharpest fashion critics, the biggest designers, of course the publicists, the starlets, bouncers to control the scenes, and every fashion enthusiast.

Here's a synopsis of what People's Revolution is really about.
What made you want to start People’s Revolution?
I already owned a pretty significant, prototypical PR company called Cutrone & Weinberg, which turned into Untitled, probably the largest management company in the country. But I can’t help myself because when I see something really good, I want to tell other people about it! So when I sold my first company and started People’s Rev, I decided that I wanted to make a company of the future—I told everybody fashion is the new rock and roll! I wanted a PR company that told the truth versus cheer-leaded, represented only things that I really believed in. It’s all very idealistic. I mean, the name itself, People’s Revolution, means the world will change when we change ourselves.

What are some of the ways in which fashion PR differs from other industries?
I think when you're a specialist in PR it's like asking the question, "What's the difference between an orthopedic surgeon and a radiologist?" I mean, there's a lot of difference, you know. But, I think that branding is branding. The great thing about fashion is that it changes every six months, and you never get stuck for two years, or even eight months, like a movie campaign. And of course, the clothes don't talk back. The clothes aren't going to call you and make you call their lawyer. They're not going to wake you up in the middle of the night because they were busted leaving a club with a drag queen. The clothes are the clothes, and usually the designers are manageable.

What accomplishment at People's Revolution are you most proud of?
That I've never bounced a payroll.

I honestly feel these two get along very well and I laughed quite often throughout the segment. The whole show Kelly talked about the truth about reality shows which was rather interesting also she told the truth on how she felt about Lauren Conrad, Stephanie Pratt, and other "starlets."

The Ashley Dupre Scandal

If you’re a fan of Kelly Cutrone then you’ve heard about the drama with Ashley Dupre (A prostitute who had a scandal with New York’s governor Eliot Spitzer).

Here’s the scene: Ashley Dupre somehow landed in the front row of designer Yigal Azrouël’s Fall/Winter 2009 fashion show this week. When Azrouël realized, “the skank,” in her seat, he flipped and fired his PR person who had placed her there. Kelly Cutrone of People’s Revolution was his PR and she had this to say, “If Ashley Dupre had shown up at Marc Jacobs’ show he would have been a hero,” she said. “It would have been cutting edge - but Yigal and she weren’t the best fit.” Kelly Cutrone also said she did not invite her but she wasn’t going to kick her out or turn her away.
I feel worse thing's could happen and this was just a publicity stunt for the fashion designer, Yigal Azrouël.

Kelly's new book !

I haven't gone out to get her new book yet but reading all the reviews it seems intense. Just judging by the title, If You Have to Cry, Go Outside and Other Things Your Mother Never Told You, you can tell its going to be blunt and sincere. Below are Review's I've gathered and summarized.

She wrote the book in hopes to mentor women on how to make it in one of the most competitive industries in the world. She has kicked people out of fashion shows (that’s another blog within itself), forced some of reality television’s shiny stars to fire their friends, and built her own company. Amazingly throughout the whole process she has managed to remain herself and not act fake. Kelly writes with no lies, she doesn’t beat around the bush instead she jumps straight to the point. She combines personal and professional stories to share her secrets of success, “without selling out.” It’s 2010 our parents grew up in the 80’s and there’s no doubt times have changed. Kelly created a real girl’s guide to making it in today’s world, she offers real opinions, tells us its okay to not live the, “perfect American dream,” and instead discover who we are and what we really want. Not only does she tell us to do this but she tells us how to go out there and get it.

Chapters include how to find, “your tribe,” (those people who are similar to you and make you happy) or how sometimes a breakdown is really a breakthrough, and how there is no such thing as perfection. Kelly shares practical advice and wants to let all women to, “stop pretending and start truly living.”

Why do you insist that your employees wear all black?

KC: I have a rule list of things you can and can’t do. The all-black rule is for fashion shows and events. It’s like a private school. We don’t want self-expression at our shows. Do you think Martin Margiela wants his PR team to wear Cavalli? I don’t think so. Black is non-descript. You don’t know if it’s GAP or Yohji.

Her theory makes sense to me why would you need to be a walking billboard for a store when your trying to market and brand multiple fashion companies. Kelly Cutrone knows the industry very well and she’s very sensible when it comes to the right things to do. As far as I know we should all look up to her for inspiration.

The scoop on her personal life

Kelly Cutrone might be known as the "tough as nails," owner of People's Revolution but at home she is loving and caring towards her daughter Ava. Kelly does not use nannies and is not a fan of them, she's the type of mom who will shuttle her 6 year old plus 20 other girls on a Friday night to American Doll. Best Mother's Day memory? Having brunch with my mom and my daughter - three generations is so sweet!
What do you think is important to teach your child? That she is loved forever no matter what. Honesty, kindness and a true understanding of this world.
Most working moms experience mommy guilt. How do you cope and find mental balance? I refuse to feel guilty for being a positive and independent role model for my daughter who manifests enough money to provide her with a wonderful life in Soho. She has a private school education which is like a dream and a wonderful, stimulating and honest environment - children watch everything and I like and support what I am showing my daughter.
